Follow the Spectrum’s Second Annual Festival Blends Art and Autism Awareness
FAYETTEVILLE, NC — On Saturday, April 26, 2025, Follow the Spectrum hosted its Second Annual Superhero Autism Awareness Festival at the Crown Complex outdoor lawn, bringing together families, children, and community supporters for a day centered on creativity, connection, and awareness. The free event continued to build on the organization’s mission of supporting and uplifting the autism and neurodiverse community across Cumberland County and beyond.
This year’s festival introduced a special theme focused on blending artistic expression with autism awareness. Sponsored in part by the Arts Council of Fayetteville and Cumberland County and the North Carolina Arts Council, the event highlighted the role of art as a powerful tool for communication, empowerment, and inclusion. Attendees from diverse backgrounds came together, each bringing their own experiences and perspectives, creating a shared sense of unity around a meaningful cause.
Nearly 600 guests attended the festival, participating in a wide range of activities designed for both children and families. The event featured art stations and contests, vendor booths, and interactive lawn games hosted by Bravery Kids Gym and Dick’s House of Sport. While children engaged in hands-on fun and games, parents and guardians had opportunities to connect directly with local ABA service providers and gather valuable resources and information.
Throughout the day, Follow the Spectrum distributed giveaways to new attendees, including autism awareness items and sensory-friendly prizes. Vendors offered a variety of products ranging from autism-themed merchandise and handmade crafts to food and refreshments from local favorites such as Flavapalooza, Taste of the Islands, and Wisdom Waterice. The organization also offered exclusive Follow the Spectrum apparel, with proceeds supporting its year-round programming and outreach efforts.
The festival also recognized creativity and participation through its art contest, awarding trophies to winners across multiple age groups. In addition, several families received sensory-friendly gifts directly from the nonprofit, reinforcing the event’s commitment to meaningful community support.
Despite early concerns about weather, the event experienced only a brief period of light rain before clearing into a pleasant afternoon. The remainder of the day was marked by strong attendance, positive engagement, and a welcoming environment for families and attendees.
Follow the Spectrum continues to expand its impact through a growing calendar of events and initiatives. In addition to the annual festival, the organization is planning upcoming programs such as a Back-to-School Giveaway at Dick’s House of Sport, a Fall Trunk or Treat, and additional pop-up events focused on neurodiversity and creative expression.
The organization extended appreciation to its 2025 sponsors and partners for their continued support: Arts Council of Fayetteville and Cumberland County, North Carolina Arts Council, WatchOut Cumberland County NC, BrightBridge ABA, Breaking Barriers Behavioral Services, Arise Behavioral Therapy Solutions, FayToday News, Crown Complex, and Bravery Kids Gym.
