Follow the Spectrum’s Inaugural Autism Awareness Event Brings Community Together at Dick’s House of Sport

(Fayetteville, NC) — On April 20, 2024, Follow the Spectrum held its inaugural Autism Awareness event at Dick’s House of Sport at Freedom Town Center, transforming the venue into a vibrant space of inclusion, education, and celebration for neurodiverse families across the region.

Families, educators, advocates, and supporters gathered for a day filled with interactive activities, superhero-themed fun, and a message of acceptance. Children were encouraged to dress as superheroes, embracing the theme of courage and uniqueness while participating in games, face painting, lawn activities, and sensory-friendly zones.

The event also featured food trucks, vendors, and nonprofit booths, creating a festival atmosphere that welcomed individuals of all ages and abilities. Proceeds from the event supported the School of Hope, a local educational institution dedicated to serving children with autism through specialized learning programs.

“We wanted to create a space where families could feel seen, celebrated, and supported,” said event organizers. “This was about bringing the community together and showing that every child is a hero in their own story.”

Sponsors and partners such as Dick’s House of Sport, FayToday News, Carolina Tree Club, and several local businesses helped make the event a success, underscoring Fayetteville’s commitment to inclusivity and awareness.
